Light does more than brighten a space—it sculpts our environments, influences our emotions, and shapes how we live within our homes. This was the central theme of “Lighting to Inhabit,” a design-forward gathering hosted by SIMON, a leading brand in lighting and connectivity design, at the auditorium of Casa Decor 2025.
The event brought together acclaimed architects and interior designers to explore the transformative power of light in modern living spaces.
Light as a Defining Element of Space
Borja Berna from CuldeSac shared a powerful insight: light is not just technical—it holds emotional weight. It defines the identity of a space, offering structure, intention, and ambiance. From Zooco Estudio, designers Sixto Martín and Miguel Crespo emphasized avoiding “conventional lighting grids” in favor of light placements with clear narrative and purpose. Every beam should mean something.
A Dialogue Between Light and Material
Carol Ugarte of Ramón Esteve Studio discussed how lighting interacts with materials to become an expressive language in itself. In stone-heavy environments, for instance, light can be soft, dramatic, or textured—creating layers, depth, and mood. It’s not just functional—it’s part of the storytelling of a space.
Natural Light, Circadian Rhythms & Human Well-Being
Designers Katja and Paola Hexel from S de Studio highlighted the importance of dynamic lighting—changing intensities and temperatures that support our natural rhythms throughout the day. Integrating both natural and artificial light in domestic settings isn’t just aesthetic—it’s deeply tied to human comfort and well-being.

Light as a Design Narrative
“Lighting to Inhabit” proved that lighting is far more than a finishing touch—it is a central design tool that affects how we feel, how we behave, and how we live. When approached with intention, light brings emotion, rhythm, and soul to a space.
At intrnd, we believe in design that goes beyond function—design that connects, inspires, and transforms.
